I have posted scans from the Star Fleet Medical Reference manual before,
focusing mainly on Vulcan physiology. Lately, however, I have noticed
an expanding interest in the manual around the internet. So here I am,
revisiting the reference manual - studying the history of medicine.

Inside,
we find that the Medical Advisor for this manual is none other than
Leonard McCoy, M.D. That automatically makes this the best book in the
entire world. It makes me glad that I found it before my friend did, who
was right beside me looking on the same dusty shelf.

At this
link are some pages with the history of medicine, not limited to Earth.
It is very interesting to see the different planets' timelines - how
advanced Vulcan was, for instance, when Earth was still in the middle
ages:

Some of the best things I have found were found in a dusty room behind
badly cared for comics and 1980's newspapers. I haven't been to that
particular antique shop lately, though - I ended up spending hundreds of
dollars every time I went there.

One of the last things I got at
that shop was a Star Trek "The Original Series" Make Your Own Starship
Kit - the USS Enterprise NC-1701.

Progress pics and pictures of the finished product here:

Once upon a time, the crew of the enterprise decided to bring back the "secret santa" tradition. Most were very excited, with the exception of Spock and Doctor McCoy. Spock felt that such a tradition was illogical and meant for humans, to which McCoy responded harshly, "You ARE half human, Spock - how about you try getting into the spirit of things, you green blooded hobgoblin."

Things really got interesting when McCoy picked Spock's name out of the boot...

I tend to frequent antique book shops for the unique Star Trek books they get in. I recently got this Motion Picture pop-up book for a mere ten dollars.

Best find ever. I will read this to my children.

The story is vague almost to the point of error, but the book is fun to look at none the less. Allow me to take you on a magical journey into the world of pop-up magic.

You walk home from the antique shop, holding on to your prize and trying to keep it dry in the rain. Finally you find some shelter, and give in - you open the book.

Suddenly, two Klingon cruisers jump out at you! Gee-whiz, the effect is so real!

Anyways, for the full article AND to read/look at the pop-up book, click here:

We all know what the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 looks like - many fans see it every day, and there are numerous shots of the exterior in every single TOS episode. What many do not know, however, is how the exterior of the Enterprise was developed.

Walter Matt Jefferies, a skilled aviator and mechanical artist, designed both the interior and exterior of the original Enterprise. I have scanned some of the sketches he had made while designing the enterprise from the Star Trek Sketchbook (The Original Series), which can be enlarged by clicking on them.

4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios.
Air Supply's "Here I Am" for Kirk/Spock. mp2 237 MB; mp4 34 MB.
http://www.iment.com/maida/keepthissecret/songvids/index.htm#latest

WHY TWO!
In the past, I used to combine full screen movies with full screen series clips. The movie clips came from laser disks, which was okay in the days when everything came from lasers, but looked their age when they were combined later with the series from DVDs. Try as I could, I just could not get full screen Trek movie DVDs. So I finally gave in and got the wide screen versions. These were great when the video was all from the movies, but doing my own pan and scan full screen versions from the wide screens resulted in fuzzier movie clips than I was happy with. And the brand new Trek DVDs are so brilliant that these new remasterings really are driving me crazy.

So, in frustration, I just learned how to combine full screen series with wide screen movies (requires blending full screen clips on top of wide screen black). But I feel like I'm doing something dodgy, so I'd really love to hear from you.

What's your preference? A video with the movie and series clips the same size (4:3 aspect ratio), or a sharper video that leaves the clips in their natural size? Or both video forms, I guess, would be another preference.

Thanks in advance for your kindness and help, Mary

I've been remastering videos into higher quality 16:9 aspect ratio videos and putting them up in both mp2 and mp4. Based on a kind person's comments, we've been able to open up our videos so that they will work with some download managers. So if you tried in the past and couldn't download before, it might be worth trying again.

The videos are still download only, that is, they can't be played on the site. You have to let our code know you're a human being, download the video and then unzip it.

Frank Sinatra's "I Did It My Way" has been pretty well changed in this new version. I never can resist fiddling and for a 16:9 video, I had to get rid of the series clips and replace them with all movie clips. Including one ST2009 clip, which was irresistable.

http://www.iment.com/maida/keepthissecret/songvids/stsong.htm#mywaynew

The Galaxy Quest videos have been moved out of the Miscellaneous page, and to the Star Trek page, since they're so logically connected. All three videos have been remastered into sharper files that will fill a 16:9 screen for about the same size as the older versions. Blessed be Paul. He's been putting whole series on hard drives for me so that I could work right off very high grade 24 frame versions. He keeps upping the quality and it frequently, as in the My Way video, tempts me into twiddling.
